WDP, which initially was the acronym of a side project with the motto 'We Don't Play' has grown to be loved and personalised by all those who encounter the music or the people behind the brand resulting in other translations of the acronym namely 'Willingness Determines Potential' or a personal favourite 'Why Doubt Purpose'.
Enough lyrical waxing, WDP is simply a live music crossover outfit (band) that released its first project dubbed The Bechuanaland Sessions: Phase 1 which saw local contemporary songs by Botswana based artists being rendered into jazz.
The brains and muscle of the project is multi-instrumentalist Leroy Nyoni who mainly plays drums and has production credits that aspire to the levels of Quincy Jones (well...kind of). Some of Leroy's other musical activities and contributions include amongst other things: Radio Show Host on Duma Fm, Session musician for Sereetsi and the Natives, Ban T, Shanti Lo, Socca Moruakgomo, Lister Boleseng, Ndingo Johwa, Nnunu Ramogotsi, Pretty much everyone , Band Member of Perfect Pitch Live Band, Band Member of Rock Band Quest, Musical Director for the Summer of '69 and 79' Productions, Frontman of Side Project - Power of One, Part Owner of Village Sound Studios, curator of Botswana Events and so on and so forth.
He was joined by Kansas City Native Terry Lewis on the alto saxophone for the first offering of WDP with the aim of carrying the project as a duo until his untimely relocation back to the United States.
Other session musicians include vocalists Zuziwe Mavuma and Tebogo Gaetsewe (Debbie with a T), bassists Michael Mokgatitswane and Sakkie Loui'bass Nonong, Guitarists Gomotsegang Gee Rapoo and Sandi Ncube, Keyboardists Tashinga Murisa and Bonolo Mogotsi... and the list goes on.
With over a decade of professional experience in the music business we know we'd be able to provide the needed entertainment services to add value to whatever event be it corporate dinner, award ceremony, wedding, farewell (or arrivals) by providing live jazz entertainment that is exhilarating with musical content that is accessible and relatable with most if not all age demographic. So what are you waiting for?
